One of the windstorms

Adam, after being caught in the windstorm

Um, I'm not sure if I can explain this one!
The weather was pleasant for the first couple of days, and we spent our time wandering around, seeing what there was to see. Thursday afternoon, Simon, Stacy, Tim, Tim, & I rode our bikes across the playa just as the wind was starting to pick up. By the time we had arrived at our destination, it had started raining a tiny bit as well. On the ride home, we were caught in a pretty good windstorm! Dust was blowing so hard it was getting into our goggles and we were having difficultly seeing where we were going. But it was really fun being caught out there!

Friday afternoon the winds started again, and this time they didn't let up for hours. The gusts contributed to the partial destruction of our pyramid, and we all rushed around trying to save everything inside from being blown away. Oh, and don't forget about the rain we had off-and-on all afternoon and night. Although it was the crappiest weather Adam had seen in seven years of attending BM, we had all been warned to expect harsh conditions and abrupt climate changes. It really wasn't *that* bad, but it was enough to send some people scurrying home. What the bad weather did do was turn Burning Man into a real survival exercise - kinda cool, eh?

Saturday night's burn happened under crystal-clear skies; we couldn't have asked for better weather. (Okay, well maybe we could have asked for warmer weather, but hey!) After running around the burning pile of what used to be the Man, Tim & I met up with others in our group and headed off to a dance "club".

All in all, it was a very different experience for me than the previous year. Even though I was there a couple of days longer this year, it seemed like I didn't see nearly as much, but at the same time, I felt like I was almost always doing something. And once again I returned home all excited about next year's Burning Man, and full of ideas of how I want to make it an even better experience.
